A New Hope (Week 19)
“If you have made mistakes, there is always another chance for you. You may have a fresh start any moment you choose, for this thing we call ‘failure’ is not the falling down, but the staying down.” ~Mary Pickford
New Media
Organization is a key to success. You don’t want to keep your boss or clients waiting while you try to find where you saved that file. The boss may fire you and the client will hire somebody else next time. Learn the Basics of the Mac Lab by following the tutorials on “The Mac Lab Website” and “Setting up Folders and Organizing Files”. Your three main folders when done should be: 1) final, 2) portfolio, and 3) wip.
Next up let’s learn the basics of Illustrator. In your first Illustrator assignment, you will follow the “Basic Shapes” tutorials to create a quilt. Pay close attention to details. Your quilt should fit perfectly in the art board.
Multimedia Design
A new semester begins. We learned the basics of graphic design during the first semester (pen tool, typography, principles and elements of design, etc.). For the second semester we are going to dive into interactive media and animation by exploring Flash. Flash is the most challenging program that we cover in class (unless you decide to tackle Blender at some point). It is important to learn the early steps of Flash to create nested movies clips. It is not about finishing the exercises, it is about learning how to use Flash so that you can make an interactive portfolio for the second semester.
Video Production
The journey begins. Welcome to ROP Video TV Production. We started this journey with the founding of the Bolt Broadcast this past fall. After a shaky start, things started to come together and the administration took notice. We now have this new class where we will spend 50% of class producing the Bolt Broadcast.
We will spend the rest of the time learning cinematography in creating group projects (music videos, short films, PSA’s, etc.). It will be learn as we go. I will be trying different things throughout the semester. Soem things will work, soem things will fail, but the journey should be fun.
