What is Your Logo Type? (Week 9)
“Good Art sends a different message to everyone, Good Design sends the same message to everyone.” ~anonymous
In the coming weeks we are going to start talking more about the design process and how it relates to communication. The first topics we are going to explore is brand identity and typography.
For today (Monday), continue to work on your Vector Illustration. Make sure that you bring into Photoshop and enhance with Camera RAW. Don’t forget to save both a print and a Web version and to upload the Web version to your Website.
If you have done all of that, double check your Website. Have you changed the title of your site? Does your post write-up have proper punctuation and grammar? Is your picture too big for your theme (aka Some things have different formats, make sure your picture doesn’t overlap the sides.)?
Typography
We are going to start exploring one of the primary aspects of good design, typography. We are going to learn about the Big 3 of typography: kerning, leading, and tracking. We also focus on the very important Principle of Design: Contrast.
Head over to the next project page for Logo Design. Read the project introduction, maybe look at some examples under inspiration, and then jump down to the tutorials. Once you have worked through the tutorials have me check it off and then begin designing a logo for your design company. Remember: Always research to start the design process. The Logo Design page has a ton of links to inspiration for quality logo examples and other valuable resources. Check out the Inspiration and Resources links.
Reading the Blog
**too late** Come up to the clipboard, look for your period, look for your ID #, write down your grade, and write down 30 in the extra time column and circle the 30.
10/28/2010 Only three students out of five classes took advantage of the extra credit opportunity. I reminded every class on Monday to make sure to read the Class Blog everyday for updates. Most of you failed. You missed out on the extra credit. Today (Thursday/Friday) come up write your participation grade (hint: look at the balance column and the grade scale) in the grade column on the spreadsheet that is on the clipboard at the front of class. If you fail to do this, 60 points (minutes) will be deducted from your participation grade.
