Tutorial | Images: Beach, Joshua Tree, Chicago
TECHNICAL
For this project I used several blending modes to bring out more color in the original images of the beach, Joshua tree, and Chicago. I used the free transform tool to make the images look like they made up the insides of the boxes. I also used the smudge tool a lot to fix minor errors. The clone stamp tool was used to make the grass in the first box look like it was growing out a little bit.
ARTISTIC
The three images are centered in the middle of the picture. None of the boxes line up perfectly with the background. This sort of provides a sense of disorder but the images inside seem calm and organized.
REFLECTION
I really liked the idea of this project when I thought it out before I started. I looked over the tutorial and used that information to make my own picture. As I added more images it became more complicated and I did not think it would turn out right. I am satisfied with the final result, but I wish I could have made the background more interesting. I also wish I could have made the boxes seem more realistic and blend in with the actual images in the background.

Tutorial | Splatter Brushes | Textures
TECHNICAL
For this project I used several splatter brushes and different types of blending modes. I used the pen tool in Photoshop and learned how to edit the work path. I used this in order to make the feathers stand out more. I added my own tail feathers and added an intense glow at the tips.
ARTISTIC
One element of design I used was color. I made the bird a brighter color and placed it in a darker setting. This makes it look like the bird is lighting up the screen. I principle of design n this project is dominance. The glowing tail feathers attract more attention first.
REFLECTION
So far I like my project. If I had more time, I may have pen tooled the bird in illustrator myself. I also may have used brighter colors on the bird to make it stand out more.

The tools I used here were the circle tool, type on a line tool, and a lot of layer masks. I drew circles for the seal and typed out “APPROVED BY CONQUER DESIGN” on them. At the end I used a sandy texture on the seal so that it didn’t look line one flat color. I put an envelope in the background so the seal didn’t look out of place.
Artistic
The focus of the image is my own personal logo. I centered it and to make it look more realistic I rotated it slightly.

A-G Requirements Poster
For this poster I used the circle tool to list the requirements. I did not want to make a checklist or an Excel spreadsheet looking design so I drew lines out radially and used the type on a line tool. I also used gradients and a drop shadow to make certain aspects stand out.
An element of design that I used was color. The black text contrasts with the brighter yellows and greens in the background. Since the text is more informative and just lists requirements, I did not want to choose a lighter color. A principle of design I used was balance. I kept the text in the center of the poster. Though the title “A-G requirements” is at the bottom, the text is bigger to focus attention.
Mediocrity is Expensive
“The ultimate freedom for creative groups is the freedom to experiment with new ideas. Some skeptics insist that innovation is expensive. In the long run, innovation is cheap. Mediocrity is expensive—and autonomy can be the antidote.” ~Daniel Pink
I think this quote means to try new things no matter what. By experimenting, you can create new ideas and improve upon past ones. Mediocrity is expensive in that it will never improve and it will become old and stale over time.
Creative Freedom
During this semester, I will use my creative freedom to improve on my skills in Photoshop and Illustrator. In my free time, I will look up more advanced Photoshop tutorials that interest me. I want to keep expanding on my knowledge of the program to keep working smarter and keep working more efficiently. I will take the time to become more knowledgable of the elements and principles of design. This will help to make my designs more cohesive and stand out more.

Design Quote Poster
For this poster I used a floral brush and repeated a vintage background to fill the page. I used a gradient to fade from darker to lighter. I used the Render Clouds tool so the background was not just a flat color across the whole screen. Paired with the vintage background, it makes the poster look weathered and old.
An element of design I used was the vintage background. It makes the poster look older or more refined. A principle of design I used was balance. I added a lot of flowers at the bottom but less at the top. I balanced it by keeping my text closer to the top as well.
