The focus in this unit is to learn how to use Photoshop like a designer. I know most of you want to just jump into Photoshop and start using it, but understanding how to "think" Photoshop is very important. There are hundreds, even thousands, of Photoshop tutorials on the Internet that will show you how to make a particular project in Photoshop. However, they don't teach you how to "think" Photoshop so that you develop a solid understanding of how Photoshop works so that you can create your own projects.

Understand the basic principles of how images are represented and exist in Photoshop.


Understand the common files types you will need to be aware of as you begin to use Photoshop.


This concept can be VERY confusing. However, if you plan on being a working graphic designer it is a concept you will want to try to understand. Don't worry if it doesn't make sense at first. As we start to work on projects and save them for both Web and Print hopefully it will make more sense.


The key to success in the CIA is to be an active listener and an active participant. Pay attention to the tutorials. The better you understand the tools, the more fun you will have, and the better your artwork will be.
